ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The 2021 Annual General Meeting will be held virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, April 21st, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. Invitations and materials for the meeting were sent out to the membership via email on Wednesday, April 7th, 2021. All members are invited to attend.
SPRING AERATION
Spring Aeration is scheduled for April 12th-16th.
The course staff will be working on aeration projects leading into and after the aeration closure dates. This is to help recover from the high volume of winter play. During this time of recovery, you will notice more areas roped off to help the recovery process. If your ball does not land in these areas, we ask that you do your part and walk around the ropes.

General Manager’s Report
Dear Shaughnessy members,
Spring is finally here, and in a “normal” year, we would be gearing up for the beginning of the golf, tennis and outdoor dining season. This year is a bit different of course. You could argue that we have just hit the mid-point of an 18-month season with the record number of rounds played on the course and matches on the courts that we’ve witnessed.
Last week brought about a new challenge for the Club with Provincial Health banning all indoor dining until at least April 19th. In order to continue providing dining services, we have increased our outdoor capacity in a comfortable fashion, and we have also added additional takeout options. Since the pandemic began, one of our key guiding principles has been to prioritize the health and safety of membership and staff, with a special focus on dining at the Club; we have been committed to providing a safe dining environment for our members and their families.
After a nationwide search for our new Executive Chef, we are pleased to announce that we chose to hire from within by promoting Chef James Choi. We are fortunate to have been able to secure one of the top young talents in the industry to lead our team going forward. Ultimately, we need to be creative and consistent with all of our food and beverage (F&B) offerings at the Club, and our F&B program must match the experiences that we have come to expect on the golf and tennis side. Though we have experienced a lot of change in the department over the last year, with Kerry Enzie, Director of Food & Beverage, and now Chef James leading the department, I am confident that we can achieve the levels that will deliver the Shaughnessy Experience for all.
The Locker Room reopening date has been slightly delayed due to a few minor setbacks. After assessing those challenges, we are now aiming to reopen the Men’s Locker Room closer to the end of April, and the Ladies’ Locker Room will reopen in June. The membership will be informed of exact dates for reopening as soon as they are confirmed; stay tuned to the Club eNews for these updates.
In the previous section of the Green, you may have noticed an intake of 18 new members this month – please join me in welcoming all of them to the Club. Of the 18 new members, 10 of them are Term Golf or Term Associate Golf (9 of which are family-related). As part of the membership acceptance guidelines developed last year, this is the only planned intake of Golfing members for 2021. As President Gord Chan mentioned in his report in the Green last month, the Board and management continue to monitor play data and lottery variances as we work to prioritize equitable tee access for our current members while remaining financially responsible to the Club. As we continue to move further into the spring and towards the summer, longer and more playable days are ahead – couple this with a provincial vaccination plan that is ahead of schedule, hopefully we can return to normalcy soon.

Hello everyone,
Welcome to April, our busy, season-opening month. Our calendar was emailed out recently; there are a variety of events for every ability. Come join us for fun, some good golf, and maybe Wonton Soup afterwards—it’s back!
A big thanks goes out to everyone keeping up the tradition of filling divots as you walk down the fairways. The divots you fill today are the ones you won’t be in tomorrow.
A friendly, winning LPGA player will be dropping into our Zoom Spring Meeting this year, so be sure to join in to see and hear her.
Our meeting will be 1 hour long.

Junior Girls
Congratulations to our own Michelle Liu and Victoria Liu. Michelle shot 212 over three days for a first-place finish at the Humber College PGM CJGA Western Canadian Championship presented by TaylorMade, Junior Girls Division, held at Mayfair Lakes during chilly, rainy, and windy conditions. Victoria fought through the adverse weather for a very close second-place finish with 213. Wow, girls, well done! Check the Shaughnessy Facebook page or Twitter account for updates.
From April 24th to May 8th, we will have a qualifying period for the Mixed Championship. You have one chance to submit your qualifying score. Teams must check in with the Golf Shop prior to the qualifying round and have their scorecard attested. The format for Mixed qualifying is net best ball. For the Mixed Championship qualifying, men will play the white tees, and women will play the red tees. Good luck everyone.

Golf Report
Dear Shaughnessy Members,
I have had the opportunity to play some amazing private clubs in my lifetime, and one of the main things I notice is the pride that members have in their golf course. They are proud of their facilities, the golf course architecture, and most importantly the condition of their club. It is imperative that each member do their part on course to ensure our conditions remain at a level we all expect. Each and every contribution, no matter how small, goes a long way. As a golfer, it is pretty easy to notice if you took a divot or not. Replacing or filling a divot only takes a few seconds. Paying attention to where your ball lands when approaching the green is the key to being able to find your ball mark. Fixing your ball mark also only takes a few seconds. Please do your part.
Your Golf Activities Committee and Captains recently sent you an email announcing a new member initiative that focuses on course maintenance. I encourage you all to jump on board and hope we can all work together to make a difference. Please see the notice below if you haven’t seen it already.
Dear Shaughnessy members,
2020 and now 2021 have brought unprecedented usage of our Golf Course and Practice Areas. In an effort to work in concert with our Course and Grounds Crew to keep the Golf Course in immaculate condition, the Golf Activities Committee is requesting your assistance with this new initiative.
Depending on your tee time, we ask that you take special pride in the condition of three golf holes per round by doing the following:
- Throw broken and discarded tees in the garbage can.
- Replace any divots while walking towards your ball.
- Fix any ball marks on the green while you are waiting to putt.
Hole assignments based on tee times:
This program is not designed to relieve each golfer of their responsibility to fix ball marks and replace their divots on other holes, but to go the extra mile on three holes to help ensure Shaughnessy continues to remain in the best possible condition for you and your fellow members.
Please remain aware of the Club’s Pace of Play Policy of 4 hours and 5 minutes while contributing to this initiative.
Thank you in advance for your support and participation.
