Hello fellow members,

I can’t believe it’s August already. Season is in full swing gentlemen, and I hope everyone is having a great time at the events and in the ladder matches this year.

Our member-guest event was held on July 12th this year. I wanted to personally thank Chris Walwyn and Peter Birks for chairing the event. These two curated the experience from the tee gifts to the wine being served at dinner, and from the conversations that I had with many of the guests the event was a huge success. A huge thank you to Chef James, Piril and the rest of the Food & Beverage team for the amazing food, drinks and service. Ashley and Branden, thank you for all of your help in getting this event together. The only thing more impressive than the event was our Vice Captain, Mr. Josh Zhang shooting a gross score of 64!!

Our next event is The Legends, being held on August 15th. This event is for the seasoned vets at our club. If you haven’t registered yet, please click here for registration.

Thank you to all the players who have been getting their matches in on time as our Championship Weekend is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday August 24th-25th. If you aren’t playing, please come out support your fellow members. Beverages will be available for on-course spectators with canapés to follow.

Round Up will be held on Saturday, September 7th this year, so make sure you mark this date in your calendar now as this will be an event you will not want to miss. Please click here to register for Round Up.

One final reminder as we get close to the end of the season: Please remember to fix your ball marks on the greens, rake the traps and place the rakes in the appropriate locations, and fill your divots in on the fairways. Let’s help Andrew and his team keep this course in the condition we expect it to be going into Championship Weekend.

2024 Men’s Golf Captain

Dear Shaughnessy members,

124 Shaughnessy members and guests participated in the 38th Annual Shaughnessy Women’s Charity Golf Invitational on July 26th. Various activities, interesting contests, members’ homemade treats, beverages, as well as a gourmet lunch and dinner were offered. Moreover, all the players had fun while generously supporting Kate Booth House and Covenant House.

Thank you all for participating and contributing to the success of our Charity Event.

On behalf of the Shaughnessy Women’s Golf Committee, my heartfelt appreciation goes out to the charity event chair, Teri Christopher, and her hardworking committee of Susan Russell, Carolyn Naylor, Cheryl E. Lee, Debra Mitchell, and Julie Paul.

To Ashley and our Golf Shop team, thank you for your wonderful work. Your professionalism ensured that everything was in place and that our tournament ran smoothly.

A big thank you to Piril, Chef James, and the Food & Beverage team for the amazing food and service.

I’d like to give special thanks to the donors. This year, we raised over $171,000. Your generosity is the cornerstone of this event and will make a significant impact on the lives of at-risk women, youth, and children in our community. Great job, Shaughnessy Ladies!

Congratulations to Holly Horwood! Holly won the Super Super Senior at the Women’s Senior Championship, held July 1st to July 4th at Sun Peaks Resort in Kamloops, BC.

Congratulations to Christina Wong! Christina won the Shaughnessy Women’s Senior Club Championship on July 16th after a two-hole playoff against Holly Horwood.

Well done, ladies! It was so exciting to see more and more new ladies’ names carved on the trophies.

In July, Shaughnessy Teams played the last two Team Interclub games on July 9th and July 30th. Unfortunately, all three teams lost in the first game on July 9th, but Team 1 and Team 3 came back strong and won the final match on July 30th. Good luck in our team games in 2025!

During the summer vacation season, Business Women had a smaller field. I encourage all eligible ladies to participate in Business Women games every Saturday. The participants can learn more rules and play more games through the smaller Business Women playing groups.

We just had the Solheim Cup on August 6th and it was an absolute blast. The Ladies’ Club Championship will run from August 20th to 25th, please sign up today! You can now also register for the Moon Festival happening on Tuesday, September 3rd. Please click here to register for the Moon Festival.

I can’t wait to mark the 2024 Club Champion’s name in my next month’s report. Join us for the games either as a player or a spectator. Don’t miss this time for miracles.

Quick Reminders

• The new ladders began on July 1st and run through September 30th. Please contact me if you would like to join the next session beginning October 1st.
• Members can book the Indoor and Outdoor Courts for singles and doubles play. The available booking times are between 6:45 AM and 8:30 PM on weekdays and 6:45 AM and 6:00 PM on weekends. You can book a court by calling the Tennis Centre at 604.266.9165 or by calling/texting the booking phone at 236.878.4320.
• The ball machine can be booked for use on the day-of.
• Tuesday Men’s Night Tennis – 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM. Sign up weekly.
• Ladies’ Dogwood League Fridays – 11:00-1:00 PM competing against various clubs.

Dear Shaughnessy members,

There are still many wonderful days ahead to enjoy Shaughnessy’s dining patios. The Food & Beverage team has curated a variety of offerings for the month, including food & cocktail features, Halfway House pop-ups, and more. August marks the midpoint of our busy season, so be sure to make a reservation early.

Our next member event is Family Fun-Day Games & BBQ on Sunday, August 18th. The event features a Rock Wall, Obstacle Course, Bunny Petting Zoo, a visit from Cinderella and Captain America, Giant Inflatables, and much more. For the month of August, for both lunch and dinner, and for another month due to popular demand, enjoy a Summer Chopped Salad with grilled peaches, arugula, cherry tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, goat cheese, pistachios, and a sherry vinaigrette. And for dinner only, try Mediterranean Sea Bass with english peas, double-smoked bacon, swiss chard, balsamic caviar, artichoke, and beurre blanc.
