Please click here to view the Christmas Guide and click here to make your reservations.

Inactive Season

As of Tuesday, November 15th, we are currently in the inactive posting season. You will not need to post scores until we are back in active season (a date that we will communicate next year).

Frost Delay Policy

In the event of a frost delay, members will be notified via the Daily Lineup email (emailed to all members on the tee sheet). The Course Superintendent Andrew Hart will communicate the time that the Golf Course will reopen. Once the course reopens, priority on the tee will go to the group that has the next tee time booked. All golfers booked in earlier tee times will need to re-book a later tee time and will not have priority once the course reopens for play.

In frost delay situations, please understand and respect that the Course & Grounds crew requires time to assess and perform maintenance ahead of play.

The Course & Grounds crew is unable to perform any maintenance tasks before the frost lifts. Please anticipate that there will be a small buffer between the time that the team is able to start work and the first tee time.

Annual Dining Closure

Please note that starting December 31st, the Food & Beverage department will be closed through Thursday, January 19th for the annual dining shutdown. Jack’s First Tee Lounge will be available for non-perishable food and beverage options on days when the Golf Course is open.

The dining areas will reopen on Friday, January 20th at 7:00 AM.

President’s Report

Dear Shaughnessy members,

It is an honour and privilege to accept the role as your current President.

As of this moment, we have 10 years left on our current lease. We are faced with a number of difficult issues to resolve, including how to achieve a balance between maintaining fiscal responsibility, achieving the high standards of the Shaughnessy Experience, and ensuring adequate access to the tee and courts. And, of course, there is the prevailing question: what will happen to the Club past 2032.

Despite these challenges, I have a profound sense of optimism. When I look back on our 110+ year history, I am reminded that our Club began in 1911 on lands located between 33rd and 37th Ave., straddling Oak Street. Since that time, our members have overcome numerous challenges, including moving the course to its current location and eventually building what I believe to be the best golf club in Canada. The Club is at a threshold in its history, and we are laser-focused on finding solutions. Our management, Board and key committees have put in significant time and thought analyzing how to navigate these difficult issues. We believe that there are solutions available.

Given the uniqueness of our current situation, I recognize the need for our current leadership to communicate more frequently with our members. Given the passion of our membership, there is inevitably a variety of questions and opinions. If I were to communicate one thing to you, it would be to say that we do listen and, I will repeat, that we are focused on finding solutions. To improve our communication, we will provide another Member Information Session next year, which will be in addition to providing an update at our annual AGM. We will spend time reviewing our 2032 model, a tool that helps us better understand our expected financial and usage requirements over the next 10 years. We will also provide updates on the potential for solutions past 2032. And as with custom as old as Shaughnessy itself, I look forward to reviewing my inbox of mail with your well-thought-out constructive comments.

I am excited and look forward to the upcoming year and, in particular, the LPGA’s CP Women’s Open, where we will showcase to the world one of the truest tests of golf located on these incredible Musqueam lands.

In closing, I would first like to thank our amazing staff, both in-house and on the course, who truly deserve credit for making the Shaughnessy Experience extraordinary. Their devotion to service and to maintaining our course is what elevates our everyday experience. I would like to thank the volunteers on the various committees who spend countless hours making the Club a better place. I would also like to thank our incredible management team, who we are truly lucky to have. Finally, I would like to thank both Gord Chan and Chris Walwyn, whose devotion to the Club is unquestionable, and through their efforts and accomplishments, they leave Shaughnessy a better place. I would also like to thank Musqueam First Nation, who have provided us the venue for the best golf course in the country.

For those of you I have not yet met, I look forward to seeing you at the Club, and I look forward to yet another amazing year. I wish you and your families a happy holiday, a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.

Respectfully submitted,

David Plunkett

Dear Shaughnessy members,

I want to start by thanking all of the members and guests who attended our annual Golf Shop Wine & Cheese party on Wednesday, November 30th. It was a full house, and it was so great to see everyone to kick off the holiday season. This year, we had a fun “Ugly Christmas Sweater” contest, and below are the top three winners:

1st Place – Sean Crowther winning an OnForm Online Video Golf Lesson with Tim Wilson
2nd Place – David Lee winning ProV1 Golf Balls & a Callaway Hat
3rd Place – Diane Jang & Rebecca Kan winning a TaylorMade TP Glove & Tour Response Golf Balls

If you missed the Wine & Cheese, not to worry, as we are offering great sales in the Golf Shop leading up to Christmas. On behalf of the Professional staff and the Back Shop staff, we would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season. If you are in town, we hope to see you around the Club over the winter months, and if you are away, enjoy your vacation; we look forward to seeing you in 2023!

Lastly, please see below for five key changes coming to the Rules of Golf, effective January 2023.
