MEMBER NOTICES

Please note that the Administration Office, Fitness Centre, Golf Shop, Tennis Centre, Locker Rooms, and Back Shop are open with regular operating hours. The Golf Course and Golf Practice Areas are open, weather permitting. As below, the Dining Areas are closed and will reopen on Friday, January 20th.

Italian Night

This artful return of dining events in the new year would make Michelangelo blush and lean like the Leaning Tower of Pisa as he enjoys delicious Italian wines.

Bring your friends and family for an Italian-inspired buffet feast full with pasta stations, mediterranean salads, Italian desserts, and more….

Seatings from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

$69/Adult
$35/Child (4-12)

Registration closes on Wednesday, January 25th at 2:00 PM.

Frost Delay Policy

In the event of a frost delay, members will be notified via the Daily Lineup email (emailed to all members on the tee sheet). The Course Superintendent Andrew Hart will communicate the time that the Golf Course will reopen. Once the course reopens, priority on the tee will go to the group that has the next tee time booked. All golfers booked in earlier tee times will need to re-book a later tee time and will not have priority once the course reopens for play.

In frost delay situations, please understand and respect that the Course & Grounds crew requires time to assess and perform maintenance ahead of play.

The Course & Grounds crew is unable to perform any maintenance tasks before the frost lifts. Please anticipate that there will be a small buffer between the time that the team is able to start work and the first tee time.

Annual Dining Closure

The Food & Beverage department is closed through Thursday, January 19th for the annual dining shutdown. Jack’s First Tee Lounge is available for non-perishable food and beverage options on days when the Golf Course is open.

The dining areas will reopen on Friday, January 20th at 7:00 AM.

Making a Dining Reservation

The Host Stand reservations desk phone line is currently voicemail-only until the Dining Areas reopen after the Annual Dining Shutdown on Friday, January 20th. Voicemails will be retrieved daily. Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance by calling the Host Stand at 604.264.5249.

GM’s Report

Dear Shaughnessy members,

Happy New Year to all! I hope all of you had a safe and happy holiday season with friends and family.

2023 of course brings the end of 2022, and what a year it was! We were able to come out of the shadows of the pandemic and focus better on providing offerings and services to a level in line with the Club’s Mission. “Normalcy” is a term that has been a bit overused over the past few years, but we have certainly seen more normalcy these past several months where we are seeing patterns of alignment to pre-pandemic norms when it comes to access to the tee, access to the courts and dining, in particular. I know the team is excited as we complete the planning season and work to continue to drive excellence and create memorable experiences for the membership.

Another key aspect of 2023 is, of course, the CP Women’s Open which will be held from August 21st-27th. There are many ways to participate in the event, whether it be volunteering, Pro-Am and hospitality participation and/or general spectating. Throughout this year, please expect additional communications regarding the Open, including updates related to involvement and potential interruptions to club operations.

At the time of this writing, we are currently in the midst of the annual dining closure. Please note that regular dining services will reopen on Friday, January 20th – Kerry and the rest of the team are excited for a new year and providing new experiences for all of you.

Similar to the past few years, the Finance Committee and Board of Directors will finalize dues and fee increases at their January meeting. Increases will be communicated to the membership in early February, with adjustments made to the statement you receive in February.

Respectfully submitted,

Brian Mossop
General Manager and Chief Operating Officer

2023 Men’s Golf Captain

Men’s Golf Captain Report

Dear fellow members,

Happy New Year!

I am very excited to be able to contribute back to this club and serve as your Men’s Golf Captain for 2023, joined by Ron Emerson Jr. as the Men’s Vice-Captain. Both of our families have had long-standing ties to Shaughnessy and we are looking forward to continuing the traditions and legacy this wonderful club has come to be known for.

First of all, I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to the outgoing Men’s Captain Fraser McKeen. Also, Ashley Zibrik, Andrew Hart, Brian Mossop, and their respective teams, for stewarding our golf course and events over this past year. I think that we can all agree that their collective efforts have elevated the Shaughnessy Experience, despite challenging times and ‘higher-than-normal play’.

We have been hard at work on the 2023 Event Calendar and expect it to be released soon. Consequently, with the CP Women’s Open coming this summer, many event dates will be shuffled around… Once the schedule is released, please make sure to block off the important dates early.

Also, unless your name is Brooke Henderson or Lydia Ko, please don’t expect to be playing our course during the Open in August. However, please think about registering as a volunteer to extend Shaughnessy’s hospitality and see up-close how the Pro’s handle our course on a Sunday setup.

I look forward to continuing to see those of you that I know and, of course, to meeting any of the members that I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me for any golf-related matter.

I wish everyone a healthy and prosperous 2023.

See you on the course!

Respectfully submitted,

Chris Read

Women’s Golf Captain Report

Welcome to the 2023 Shaughnessy Women’s Golf Program

Our high-level mantras of inclusion, kindness and having fun have resonated with our members and staff at Shaughnessy. The program will continue to ingrain these concepts in 2023.

I’m anticipating a wonderful year with the support of our Past Captain Carolyn Naylor, Michelle Yuan as our Vice Captain, Teri Christopher as our Charity Coordinator, and the ever-competent Diane Fulton as our Member at Large. Back to organize the Team Program are Kathy Forrest and Virginia Lam. There are many other women volunteering in important positions throughout the Governance structure at Shaughnessy, and if you are interested in serving on one of the many Club committees, I encourage you to reach out to me, and I will be happy to point you in the right direction.

What is the plan for the 2023 Season?
Of course, the major event will be the LPGA’s CP Women’s Open, which officially takes place from August 21st-27th. It will be so fun to see how these Pros play the course. Be sure to volunteer to get a front-row seat.

In terms of the Shaughnessy Women’s Golf Program, we plan to continue to thread the needle by encouraging casual golfers while also creating challenging events for the more competitive types and offering our working women the Business Women option on Saturdays. Although each group lays claim to having the most fun, we encourage fluid movement between the groups.

Team and the Charity are big events, so Kathy Forrest and Teri Christopher will let us know more details later. Returning due to popular request will be more casual lunches post non-event Tuesdays, while the bigger events will continue to have more structured social add-ons. The Cookie Two-Ball event will be back this season, and we will be heading to Victoria for our annual Exchange event – always fun. I am hopeful that this year’s program will offer something for everyone, plus the opportunity to create and deepen our friendships.

An important evolving change in the Women’s Program is the bigger and bigger role that our Shaughnessy staff, both on the Golf and Food & Beverage side, play in the deliverance of the quality experiences our members have come to expect. It makes the role of Captain a real pleasure.

Respectfully submitted,

Golf Report

Dear Shaughnessy members,

Happy New Year to everyone, and on behalf of the Golf Professional Staff, we hope that you had a wonderful time over the holidays!

The annual rounds of golf report is in for last year totalling just over 41,000 rounds played. This is over 8,000 fewer rounds compared with 2021, which was the highest number of rounds in any given year in Shaughnessy’s history. We started the 2023 season with 60 keen golfers on New Year’s Day – it was great to see so much action on a winter day.

The Golf Professional Staff, Men’s and Women’s Golf Captains, as well as their respective committee members, have been working hard on finalizing the 2023 event calendar. We look forward to a great year of events and will announce the dates as soon as we can so you are able to mark your calendars accordingly. If you have not participated in a golf event at the Club before, feel free to reach out to the Golf Professionals for any information you may require, as we would love to welcome some new faces!

We may start to see some rainy days rather than snow with the warmer temperatures. This may lead to softer grass conditions. As a friendly reminder, please remember to fix your ball marks and fill/replace your divots when playing on course. If every member chips in and does the little things on course, it will improve the turf quality and playing conditions. This includes taking the time to walk a few extra steps around a roped-off area marked by our Course & Grounds crew!
