President/GM Report

Dear Shaughnessy members,

A key part to your experience this summer at Shaughnessy will be our ability to navigate through the recently announced Provincial Health Restart Plan by understanding how orders affect our services, particularly in food and beverage. With changes to the health order expected on June 15th, July 1st and September 7th, rest assured we will continue to plan and implement services and offerings by balancing the health and safety of our members and staff, with elevated experience.

Please expect several changes to some key health and safety protocols and service items over the next several weeks as we work to navigate provincial health orders.

As we slowly move out of the pandemic, we are starting several key initiatives to help us better plan for our future. We have engaged GGA Partners to assist us in a usage study that will help us better project future access to the tee. In addition, we are planning to send to members a comprehensive survey towards the end of summer that will help us with both operating and strategic planning going forward.

Finally, you may have noticed that our flag has been at half-mast this past week. We lowered the flag in recognition of the 215 children who were found buried at the Kamloops Residential School. Our thoughts are with the victims’ families, residential school survivors, Indigenous communities grappling with this loss, and all those in mourning.

Hello members,

Congratulations to Gold Cup winner Kamyar Yamini on his first title; well played!

Gold Cup saw its biggest field in history; thank you to all who played and supported. Thank you to Andrew Hart and his team for the amazing conditions both days; interesting what just having to hole out does to some players, and then you throw in greens running over 12 – WOW!!

Good luck to all participants in Season Long Club Championship Match Play brackets, including Fourball, Dr. Fahrn/Father Son, Mixed, Legends, Super Senior, and Senior.

We all like to win, but remember we host tournaments to build camaraderie and good times; play hard, but keep the spirit of the game in mind.

Pace of play has improved to the point of not even having to discuss it at length, so it goes without saying that we should also respect the record amount of play with a conscious effort during our matches to keep a good pace of play; thank you in advance.

We now have the chance to host Men’s Opening Day on June 12th; it should be filled with good laughs, stiff competition and stories of shots that could have been.

To all the members carrying extra sand bottles, picking up garbage and going above and beyond, we all thank you for helping us have the great conditions we see each day.

Until July, keep enjoying the walk and take the chance to play with a member you’ve never had the chance of playing with before and build on the best membership of any club in the city.

Hello everyone,

May was a winner for us; let’s hope the coming June Gloom is more of a bloom.

We’ve enjoyed superb weather this season, and our participation has really been boosted with everyone coming out to enjoy the stellar conditions on the course. I’m so grateful.

Thank you, Ashley Zibrik, Michelle Waters, Zach Pichor, and all the staff that help us get out there and find pleasure in our course.

Austin Taylor Qualifier

May 4th saw Michelle Yuan win the day, shooting a fabulous Net 69 with a stunning front nine Gross of 39. Wow.

And congratulations to all those players going forward to play in the season long matches.

Well played all!

Team Match Play

May 11th: Great start to a new concept. I’m proud of everyone for stepping up and helping to replicate the environment of a team event. We’ve returned to the method of scoring of Interclub Team, and that reverses the first day of play results. Out of 180 points for the day, Georgia Straights win in a very close 91.5 to 88.5 over the Fraser Flyers.

To see results from any of our tournaments, head on over to the tab marked Results, select Ladies and view the results.

Seasonal Eclectic

May 18th and 25th: what a blessing that second day was to improve our scores.

Nancy Li won 1st place with a Net 63, with Anne Mohammad in 2nd shooting a close Net 66.

Holly Horwood was outstanding with a Gross 73, and a 78 brought Molly Chen to a nice 2nd place finish.

Birdies were happening everywhere, and I’m thinking a birdie tree in the locker room is a definite must, once we reclaim our space.

Here comes more golf

June will see our second team and first Stableford tournaments, and will end with our Grandmothers Cup.

July has variety, with a special focus on the Senior Club Championship.

August will bring excitement with the Ryder Cup and our Club Championship!

September will see our Kate Booth House Charity Golf Tournament – a beloved tradition to our venerable club. Come out and support our dear friends at Kate Booth House in all the good work they do. There are donation forms available in the Golf Shop or in the Admin Office, and volunteers are being sought. For information on how you can help, please contact Jane Macgregor at janemacgregor29@gmail.com.
