President’s Report

Dear Shaughnessy members,

It is a great honour to accept my re-election as President of our club for the upcoming year. Serving the membership of Shaughnessy has been an incredible privilege, and I am committed to continuing our journey toward excellence together.

As part of the Board’s commitment to improving communication with the members, I would like to invite you to join me for a casual and engaging Q&A session at the Club. This will be an opportunity for us to connect over coffee and discuss the Club’s matters on a personal level. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, November 25th, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the Garden Lounge. Your insights and feedback are highly valuable, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please click the button below to RSVP to the event.

Q&A with the President

Saturday, November 25th, 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Garden Lounge

Reflecting on our recent achievements, I am still filled with pride from the CPKC Women’s Open. The feedback we received from the players and golf Canada was incredible.  We have now received a comprehensive report card from the LPGA , which is a testament to our collective efforts. Some highlighted quotes from the report include:

  • “The greens were in excellent condition with speeds averaging in the low to mid 12’s throughout the week.”
  • “The driving range tee was flawless for players as they arrived for tournament week.”
  • “The food and hospitality throughout the week at Shaughnessy were exceptional, something players, caddies and staff enjoyed and greatly appreciated.”
  • “Once again, a shoutout to Andrew Hart and his staff and volunteers for making the golf course the star of the show!”
  • “A huge thank you to General Manager Brian Mossop, Director of Golf Ashley Zibrik, and the entire Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club staff and membership for making the LPGA players, caddies and staff feel welcome throughout the week. The tremendous support from the club was incredible.”

Please click here to view the Report Card. I want to extend special recognition to our tournament co-chairs, Diana Maughan, Ian McLean and Ken Woods for their outstanding leadership,  to Andrew and the Course Team for their dedication and to Chef James, Piril, Kerry and the entire Food & Beverage team for their exceptional contributions in showcasing Shaughnessy to the world. Your hard work has made us all incredibly proud.

We have a treasure trove of over 1000 pictures from the event. These photos capture the special moments and the involvement of many of our members in the success of the CPKC Women’s Open. We also have new videos and other exciting content to share with you. Please click the link provided to explore this ever-growing archive and relive the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club as we continue to strive to be the best of the best.  I would also like to thank David Hou for his tremendous work as our Vice President last year and I would like to welcome Tom Whelan as your upcoming Vice President, who has some big shoes to fill following in David Hou’s wake.

We have a lot to accomplish in the coming year and I am excited to get to work.

Sincerely,

David Plunkett

General Manager’s Report

Dear Shaughnessy members,

After 42 outstanding seasons as our head gardener, Gerry Morris will be retiring at the end of January. Gerry joined Shaughnessy’s gardening team in 1982 and took over as head gardener in 1989. In that time, he has left an incredible mark on the Club’s lush grounds and gardens.

Gerry carried on the tradition of our beloved cactus garden started by previous head gardener, Otto Jassman. He also created new signature features like the intricate planted Shaughnessy crest garden off the 1st tee. Some of Gerry’s other proudest accomplishments include developing Shaughnessy’s iconic hanging flower baskets and guiding the evolution of our greenhouse. He has brought great passion and meticulous care to maintaining and improving the club’s horticulture over four decades of service.

Gerry wanted to share the following with the members, of whom he has developed relationships with:

It has been a privilege and a pleasure devoting 42 seasons to the development of the gardens surrounding the clubhouse and on the golf course at Shaughnessy. These feelings are also accompanied by a gratitude for those opportunities and experiences I have had. I am proud of the accomplishments achieved together with the many co-workers, member volunteers and managers throughout those years. I especially would like to thank the entire membership – past and present – who encouraged and enjoyed the landscapes and gardens that contribute to the picturesque surroundings.

We will sincerely miss Gerry’s deep knowledge and steadfast commitment to the Club. Please stay tuned for a future announcement to celebrate his retirement at a special party that will take place in the Spring of 2024. We look forward to sharing memories, stories, and appreciation for Gerry’s 42 outstanding seasons of service and contribution to the Shaughnessy Experience.

Sincerely,

Brian Mossop

Golf Report

Dear Shaughnessy Members,

November is here and we are currently at just over 36,000 rounds of golf as of the end of October! Our total rounds for the year are trending to be much lower than 2020, 2021 and 2022 but higher than 2019 which saw just over 35,000 rounds.

I was curious to compare our rounds of golf with the other 9 private clubs in the Lower Mainland and the only club with fewer rounds was Capilano, by a small amount. The other 8 clubs are seeing quite a few more rounds monthly. I am happy to report our access to the tee was great this season with virtually no lottery issues for member groups! Members were also able to enjoy bringing guests out to the club on a regular basis again.

Just a reminder, our golf shop team would like to invite you to our annual Wine and Cheese! We have lots of new stock in the golf shop and are ready to help you with your Christmas shopping now for those of you who like to start early!

Hope to see you all there!

Respectfully submitted,
