President’s Report
The Last Word
This is my last President’s Note as my tenure as President winds down at the end of October. It has been an honour to serve in this capacity during some very interesting times for our club. Rather than trumpet the accomplishments of the past two years, I’d like to thank our Executive, Dennis Ewasiuk and Gord Chan, our Board of Directors, Ian McLean (Mac) who stepped in last year as interim GM, and our COO and General Manager, Brian Mossop. All have done a tremendous amount of work making our club continually better and enhancing the Shaughnessy Experience.
Our stated objective is to run Shaughnessy to the highest standard possible through to 2032. We have a great club, a great golf course and it is all of our responsibility as members to ensure the Shaughnessy Experience remains top notch. Our club is in an enviable financial position to allocate resources to operational excellence and ensure a high-quality standard for our facilities and amenities.
This has been an interesting year for sure. When we reopened the course in April we experienced the busiest golfing play months since we began accurately tracking these numbers, breaching 7000 rounds a month in June and July. Course conditions have been the best in memory thanks to Andrew Hart and his team and their execution of the Course Management Plan. Shaughnessy became our summer holiday location and sanctuary in this pandemic world.
As mentioned at the outset, it has been an honour to serve as your Club President. I encourage everyone to abide by our code of conduct, respecting fellow members and staff, and enjoy and respect our great golf course and facilities.
Respectfully submitted,
Chris Walwyn

Men’s Golf Captain Report
Hello Members,
I was trying to think of a clever way to start this Captain’s message, but I just couldn’t get the final results of Round Up out of my head. What specifically out of my head you ask? The fact that Jamie Wooster will now be holding court wearing the coveted green jacket. But only on special occasions Jamie, like Men’s Opening Day, Member-Guest and so on… this doesn’t include your regular Saturday game!!
All joking aside congratulations, to our four newly minted green jacket winners of the 2020 Round Up: Kamyar Yamini, Reid Brooks, Jamie Wooster and Andrew Saxton; we’re all happy for the four of you—no really, we’re all truly happy!!
Thank you to Ashley Zibrik and her team for introducing us to a new Friday format and organizing the event. Thank you to Chef Scot for the food and beverages, and to Andrew Hart and his team for having the course set up so the guys felt like they earned the green jackets, but who’s idea was that pin on 16?
Now we turn to the post-aeration and fall golf season with the leaves turning and the brisk air. Shaughnessy presents a whole other beauty during this time.
In closing, I would like to thank our membership for improving everyday with sand and seed, divot repairs and pace of play; keep up the strong effort, but the reminders won’t cease just yet.
Anyone wanting to join our GAC committee for the 2021 season, please contact Ashley or me for further information.
Respectfully submitted,
Sean Crowther

Women’s Golf Captain Report
Dear Members,
2020 will be remembered as if time had stopped. Suddenly our lives came to a halt, and the need for increased awareness had us reset our priorities.
When Shaughnessy reopened golf, it brought a breath of fresh air to all. Walking the links and reconnecting with our fellow members while hitting that little white ball took on a whole new meaning.
As your Executive team, our commitment was to offer a streamlined program inclusive to all levels of play. Thanks to the collaboration, dedication and discipline of the Administration, Golf Shop and F&B teams, protocols and procedures were promptly put in place. Together, we all contributed to the success of the Ladies’ program.
Week after week, our events registered breaking numbers of players. All Cup tournaments were played in addition to new friendly formats. The Club Championship added a fourth flight, not seen for several years. Congratulations to Angela Zhang, our Club Champion, and all the rest of this season’s Cup winners.
The 34th annual fundraising initiative for Kate Booth House, with a members-only Recognition Day, has proven to be another success. This year, in particular, the needs are even greater.
In preparation for next season, I am proud to announce Susan Russell as our incoming Captain, Carolyn Naylor as Vice-Captain, returning Treasurer Leslie Cliff, and House Chair Roslyn Boniface. We thank them all for accepting their nominations and wish them a great season ahead.
In conclusion, I wish to thank all those who have supported our team during these challenging times. As we look ahead, we ask all members to continue to adhere to the Club’s directives and thus enjoy our beautiful golf course together.
Stay safe and healthy.
Respectfully submitted,

The Club is excited to host the 2021 CP Women’s Open August 23-29. Preparations for next year’s tournament are well underway and kicking into high gear. We expect to have 1,200+ volunteers as important and essential participants at the 2021 CP Women’s Open. We thank those members who have already volunteered; please stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks. There are still many great volunteer positions available. Volunteers are generally assigned as registered, so we encourage candidates to sign up as soon as possible. Where possible, preference will be given to Shaughnessy members. If you have volunteered at a previous event, you know how rewarding a volunteer experience can be. Please click here to register. Stay tuned to Club e-blasts and the Green for more CP Women’s Open updates.
