GM Report

Dear Shaughnessy members,

September 2021 surely looked quite a bit different than a year ago. The Club executed many traditional events for the first time in two years and despite the spotty weather during the month, golf, tennis and dining remained very active.

As a reminder, at present time, members who are not partially vaccinated or fully vaccinated are not able to access indoor facilities and dining areas of the Club – please click here for the full details of the Club’s vaccination policy. The Club will continue to align with guidance from the Provincial Health Officer as we move towards full vaccination requirements for unrestricted access to Club facilities and amenities.

To date, just under 1300 members have declared their vaccination status with the Club with over 98% of respondents indicating that they are fully vaccinated. Also, from a usage perspective, 98% of rounds of golf played since the vaccination policy was enacted have been played by those that are either partially (0.5%) or fully vaccinated (97.5%).

I would like to send a special thank you to our front-line and administrative support staff for their dedication to implementing and executing an effective vaccine verification system that best ensures the health and safety of our members.

With the extreme difficulty the service industry has faced in attracting and retaining talent since the onset of the pandemic, the Club too has seen heightened difficulty in hiring for front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH). Our Human Resources and Food & Beverage management continue to proactively seek out new talent; however, like other local clubs and restaurants, hiring has been slower than typical. In light of this, some additional food & beverage closures will be required as we work to hire and train additional team members and this will be communicated via email and on the Club’s website. We thank you for your understanding as we navigate these unprecedented changes in the labour market.

In coordination with GGA Partners, the final version of our member survey will be sent to the membership via electronic format on Friday, October 15th. All members are invited and encouraged to participate.

Respectfully submitted,

Brian Mossop
General Manager and Chief Operating Officer

Golf Report

Dear Shaughnessy members,

It has been two months since we installed TrackMan Range technology. During this time, we have seen close to 450 different members use the TrackMan App. Our professional staff have enjoyed hearing positive feedback from members utilizing the app and sharing the value they see added to their practice sessions. I know I speak on behalf of our team when I say that we highly recommend testing it out if you haven’t already. With cooler temperatures and softer conditions approaching, there is no better way to dial in your club carry and total distances. If you are looking to make improvements throughout the fall and winter, this is also a great tool to work on increasing your ball speed, for example. If you are not comfortable using the TrackMan app, please reach out to our Golf Shop staffwe are more than happy to help you.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the recent departure of Back Shop Manager Jack Wood. Earlier this year, Jack agreed to step into the role of Back Shop Manager for the season and assist our team through likely the busiest summer in history. Jack will be moving on into the investment advising industry. We thank Jack for his four years of service to the Club and wish him all the best in the next phase of his career.

Respectfully submitted,

Ashley Zibrik
