Hello Golf Fans!!

The 2020 Championship Weekend has just passed. If you didn’t get the chance to watch any of the final matches, I would highly recommend doing so next season.

Having had the opportunity to sit with all of the Champions at their dinner (only in the Captain role), it was exciting to hear at which shot or moment they all felt they had victory in their sights. Congratulations again to all of our Champions.

Thank you to Andrew Hart and his team for tour conditions, and Ashley Zibrik and her team for keeping everyone on pace. Lastly, a special thank you to Zach Belitsky for heading up the Championship event.

As the summer ends, we now have Round Up quickly approaching us. Who will win the coveted green jackets this year? Will it be a long-time participant, or will it be a member participating for the first time? Let the fun begin!!

I get a lot of requests for pictures on how some members leave the course and club property, so I will leave you with this final question: is the same member who leaves this push cart in the parking lot…

Men’s Golf Captain

Dear members,

As we turn the page to September, with cooler mornings and shorter days, we thank the Course and Grounds team for maintaining a championship-quality standard throughout the season despite the groundbreaking number of rounds played every month.

This season’s women’s golf events are coming to an end, and we invite all women golfers to participate in our season closer event. We will celebrate this unique season on Tuesday, September 15th at the “2020 Finale Go for the Gold”. This event will include draws, a food station, and cake and wine served on the patio, courtesy of the Women’s Golf Committee.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP CONGRATS

We held our Club Championship this past month and had the best turnout in recent years. Congratulations to all participants, Angela Zhang our Club Champion, as well as all the flight Winners and Finalists.

CHARITY

The 34th edition of the Kate Booth House Charity at Shaughnessy has been a huge success. Thank you, Jane Macgregor, Kelly Barber, and Susan Russell for your endless hours of work in planning this special edition. It has been a challenging year for all, but particularly for the most vulnerable. In these COVID-19 times, the need is greater than ever. The KBH supports and provides housing for women and their children who are in crisis. Fundraising efforts are still ongoing until September 30th. Dear members,

Congratulations to all our Club Champions in 2020! In particular, Tyson Burch, a first-time Men’s Club Champion, as well as Angela Zhang, a first-time Women’s Club Champion, and Forrest Van Alstine, a back-to-back Junior Champion. It was great to see the increase in participation in our season-long match play, and Championship Sunday did not disappoint with some exciting matches.

We had another record month in August with 6330 rounds (all member play!). With shorter days approaching and summer temperatures, we are starting to see an increase in lottery variances. Please keep this in mind when receiving your tee times in September. We are projecting to do over 40,000 rounds this season, and this could end up being the busiest year for rounds of golf in Shaughnessy history. Our fall aeration is scheduled for September 29th-October 2nd, so enjoy the amazing course conditions this month!

Tennis Mixers are open to all members of all levels of play. They are social nights of doubles followed by dinner. The dress code is lifted for a few hours so you can wear your favourite outfits, as we have a different theme for each event.

Tennis Opening Day is on Saturday, October 3rd. Members must sign up for tennis and dinner. Tennis runs from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. with dinner at 5 p.m. Maximum 40 members. No guests; $59 per player.
