Dear Shaughnessy members,

Along with the end of summer and the beginning of fall, September brings the last stretch of the golf season and the beginning of our indoor tennis season. We have experienced fantastic weather over the latter part of the summer, which has certainly benefited the member experience for golf, tennis and dining at the Club.

As Brian alluded to last month, we finished our search to replace Thomas in Administration. We are thrilled to announce that Lesia Wong, CPA, CGA, has joined Team Shaughnessy as our new Senior Accountant. Lesia will be mainly responsible for member accounts and adjustments. Lesia is a Certified Professional Accountant with extensive accounting experience, which has included working within the Private Club Industry.

And finally, we would like to welcome back Dr. Ed Bukszar, Mrs. Margo Dobbin, Mr. Brian Fulton, Dr. David Hou, and Mr. David Plunkett to the Board and introduce Mr. Barry Loughlin, Mr. Gord McCauley, and Mr. Larry Prentice as new Board members. All of these members were recently elected as per the Club Bylaws and will serve a two-year term for the 2023 and 2024 board years. In addition, a special thank you to Past President Mr. Chris Walwyn, Mr. Tom Whelan, and Mr. Gord Horsman, who have fulfilled their full terms on the Board and have greatly contributed in so many different ways to enhance the Shaughnessy Experience.

Hello members,

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the competitive golf season this year, which ended with a great day of competitive golf on Championship Sunday. To cap it all off, Will Eddy was crowned Shaughnessy Men’s Club Champion for a record 6th time, a fantastic achievement.

As we get ready for a close to our main events, including our last Men’s night, I want to give thanks to the Golf Shop, F&B department, Grounds Crew, and of course the members who have kept the course, events and Club at such a high standard this year. We hope to add a few fall events to the calendar, so please keep an eye out for those.

Enjoy the last gasps of summer on the course and hopefully the last of the mosquitoes!

2022 Men’s Golf Captain

Dear members,

As I write this newsletter, we have just completed our inaugural Moon Festival. My heartfelt thanks to Co-chairs Maggie Shen and Roslyn Boniface who created a lovely evening for 85 attendees. I also want to thank Alina Liu for her amazing support for the event.

Our Grans and Non-Grans event held on August 9th saw Allison Carson win the Grans category with a -3 net 70 and Marti Oppenheimer win the Non-Grans category with a -2 net 71.

Business Women golf will continue until October 1st, and our final regular Tuesday Ladies’ program will wrap up on Tuesday, September 13th. Thank you to Carson Kallis for running Business Women this season.

Please register now for the Women’s Fall Meeting to be held Tuesday, October 4th at 3:00 PM. Apologies for the date change. We were reminded that September 30th is Truth and Reconciliation Day (a national holiday).

And last but certainly not least, I want to extend a huge thank you to the team of volunteers who made our ladies’ program operate this year. Leslie Cliff, Diane Fulton, Susan Russell, and Roslyn Boniface…THANK YOU!

And to the extended Womens’ Golf Committee, Sandra Thompson, Chinami Hancock, Holly Horwood, Margo Dobbin, Teri Christopher, Jane Macgregor, Kathy Forrest and Virginia Lam…another huge thank you! It has been an honour working with you this year.

• Mark your calendars for a One Day Mixed Doubles Tournament on Saturday, November 5th. Sign up with Director of Tennis Jerome Fournier.
• Upcoming Tennis Mixer Dates: Friday, October 14th (Halloween themed); Friday, November 18th (Country themed); and Friday, December 2nd (Christmas themed). Register at the Tennis Centre or by calling 604.266.9165. For each of the events, there will be tennis from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM and dinner from 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM.

Quick Reminders

• The new Singles Ladders are in full swing and will run until the end of September. The new session will begin on October 1st. Jerome will contact every member that is currently participating to sign up for the next session. If you would like to join the next session but are not currently participating, please contact Jerome directly.
• The ball machine can be booked for use the day-of.
• Members may bring guests to play tennis during non-prime hours. No guests are allowed on the courts between 6:00PM-8:30PM on weekdays and between 9:15AM-1:00PM on weekends. The same guest can only play at the Club once a month.
• Members can book the Indoor and Outdoor Courts for singles and doubles play. The available booking times are between 6:45 AM and 8:30 PM on weekdays and 6:45 AM and 6:00 PM on weekends. You can book a court by calling the Tennis Centre at 604.266.9165 or by calling/texting the booking phone at 236.878.4320.
• Tuesday Men’s Night Tennis – 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM. Sign up weekly.

Introducing a new line to the Shaughnessy Golf Shop – our AV Macan Collection designed by yours truly! It was designed from a digitized photo of our course architect, with a watercolour effect added to fill the outline of Macan. This custom logo is on a variety of new merchandise in our Golf Shop, including comfortable shirts, sweaters and multiple styles of hats. Come check out the display in the shop and make sure you grab one from this limited release!

Other new arrivals to look forward to this fall are Shaughnessy-Logoed Galvin Green products, new ladies’ collections from Peter Millar and Swing Control, as well as new products from Lululemon and J. Lindeberg set to arrive this week. Alongside the arrival of these new products, we will have some promotions set up outside the Golf Shop to move some older products at some heavily discounted prices.
